Jenny Choo is a pianist whose passion for vocal arts and collaboration guides her work as a vocal coach. She is finishing her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Accompanying and Chamber Music at the Eastman School of Music under the guidance of Andrew Harley. She is currently the opera coaching fellow for the upcoming season of Aspen Music Festival and School.

In 2023, Jenny was part of the U.S premiere of Missing, which addresses the tragedy of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls, by Brian Current and Marie Clements at the Anchorage Opera Company as head of music with music director, Timothy Long. This was preceded by her work with Eastman Opera Theatre, Lear on the 2nd Floor by Anthony Davis, which discusses dementia and its effects on our loved ones.

In 2022, Jenny was one of the finalists for Wigmore Hall/Bollinger International Song Competition in London, U.K where she and her musical partner, Edward Thomas Bland, presented a program of Schubert, Poulenc, and Vaughan Williams. Her operatic work continued with Finger Lakes Opera as their Tomita Young Artist, and with Rochester Philharmonic for their production of Hansel and Gretel with Andreas Delfs.

Jenny’s belief in the power of the sung words is rooted from her days from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with their nationally recognized musical theater program where she was the Coordinator of Accompanying. Her music directing credits from SIUC include A Little Night Music, Boys from Syracuse, The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!), Pippin, Spring Awakening, and Sunday in the Park.

Jenny’s mentors include Catherine Ciesinsky, Anthony Dean Griffey, Andrew Harley, Junghwa Lee, Timothy Long, Russell Miller, Ilia Radoslavov, Robert Swensen, and Neil Varon.
